This Arctic char from Kolapore Springs is ethically and sustainably farmed in Whitehorse, Yukon. This Arctic char is farmed on land using a raceway or flow-through system. This system has minimal impacts on the oceans because the discharged water is filtered and treated before being released into the surrounding watershed.
The farm ensures that their impact is minimal by using adjustments to feed formulations, research on local ecosystems and wetland remediation, as well as regular monitoring and sampling of surrounding water bodies.
In operation since 2009, Kolapore Springs Fish Hatchery takes great care to ensure that their fish stocks are well maintained and never over-crowded. Access to cool, nutrient rich water and naturally enriched food gives this fish a beautifully firm flesh and absolutely fantastic flavour. This sustainable and organic hatchery produces very little waste, with the inevitable fish excrement collected and harvested for fertilizer.
